1911 Barrel Question - "Ramp"

I did something of a rebuild on my old 1918 1911. Been in the family since the 1930s. Installed aftermarket barrel and had feed problem of bullet stopping on the ramp. I polished it and lowered the angle of incline several times, with a little improvement each time, till it's now OK. Question is this common with aftermarket barrels?
The barrel I replaced was a 1930s GI replacement, then new. In the 1930s one of my cousin's ranch hands went to the summer National Guard camp and brought back new barrels, mags and a few other parts plus a nail keg of loose .45 ACP. We overhauled our 1911s and shot up a storm for a while.
I am a specialist in antique gun restoration, mainly flint and wheel lock types. Not big on moderns other than where the old stuff is similar, such as wood work and making some parts now and then. Basically work that others can't do or don't want to bother with.
Comments appreciated.
