Exactly how is the name stamped on the barrel?

If it is marked "J. Stevens Arms Co.", it was manufactured sometime after Stevens was bought by Savage Arms in 1920, but sometime before the late 1940s.

Unfortunately, there is precious little reference material that discusses the many different Savage/Stevens shotguns that were manufactured in the past 80+ years. Most were/are utilitarian guns, meant to hunt with, and are not considered collectable by the vast number of gun collectors. Typical value will be in the $100 - $300 range.
