Help ID this pistol.

I need some help to ID a handgun. Pic attached. It's a single shot, maybe a .22. The front trigger is actually a lever to tip up the barrel for loading. The hammer seems to be flat, to fire a rimfire cartridge. Rifling in the barrel is faint, or non-existent. The metal is stamped and very cheaply made.

Has anyone seen one of these before? What is it?

Thanks in advance!

I think that shoots blank bb caps. I wouldn't dare put a real .22 cartidge in it unless I had too many fingers.

It appears to be what was called in the 19th Century, a "4th of July Gun". These were very inexpensive, made to shoot top hat percussion caps.

Your's looks to be in excellent condition, considering its probable age, ( 125 yrs? ). They had a high attrition rate, as in those days before legal liability was a factor, they were sold and used as toys for children.
