I have a winchester replica of the remington-hepburn #3 .38-40 and am having trouble finding any info on it. i have cantacted the winchester historian and he was very rude and unhelpful. The only thing that is stamped on the gun is the manufacture and ".38-40 1 3/4 REM. and the serial #. does anyone have any info for me?

Winchester replicas are made in Japan. Due to U.S. law they are required to be marked as such, i.e. "Made in Japan".

Per the above not likely to be a Winchester made replica. Personally I haven't been aware of any one making replicas of pistol caliber Hepburns. Chances are because of this it's a original Remington, or something made by a very skilled toolmaker/gunsmith as a home project, IMHO.

    Sounds strange to me.
Show pictures with clear closeups of markings.

Note: The .38-40 Remington-Hepburn was an entirely different cartridge from the .38-40 Winchester & Marlin.

I know that there was a company that made replica actions a few years ago and sold them as an unfinished kit. Maybe this is one of those actions that somebody just put a Winchester barrel on?

What markings are on the action (not the barrel)?

Edit: Is the barrel marked Winchester?

Here is one company that makes replicas http://www.hepman.com/dzarms/index.html

D Z arms does Great work They make good on all promised prices and date of shipment. No matter if they are replacing parts on original Remington built rifles or building you one of their HIGH Quality Modern REPLICA. DZ is a first rate company to deal with . Old School Quality and customer service Karl Woerner
EDIT either you have a mixed breed parts gun or you have a Wichester Rifle not a Remington Hepburn. This is why Winchester was perceived by you to be rude and not helpful . Sort of like asking a Ford dealer what they know about a Toyota. Pictures posted here would have avoided mistaken identity
