Colt Officer's Model 38

I have a friend that has one of these. It is stamped "Officers Model 38" on the barrel. I need to know if this is a 38 Special or a 38 Long Colt. I have yet to see it and would like to have all the needed info when I do.
From the info I can find if the cylinder rotates clockwise then I know it is a 2nd model and that it will be in 38 Special. But if the cylinder rotates counter clockwise then it is a first model and can be in either caliber. I have found a few officers models on the auction side that just say 38 on the barrel and are advertised as 38 Specials. How were the 38 Specials & 38 Long Colts marked. Thank you!
