Fire forming 7mm-06 from 3006

Would it be possible to neck size some 06 brass with 7x57 dies just enough to get the shell to chamber and fire form it this way? Also what kind of load would I use to fire form?

7MM Express (as it was originally named), or 280 Remington (its current name) is readily available both as emtpy cartridges, and as factory loaded ammo.

The .280 cartridge is about .050" longer in head to shoulder dimension to keep it out of .30-06 and .270 chambers and is therefore not the same as the wildcat 7mm-06/.285 OKH.
I guess you could set the shoulder back on .280 brass but then it would be deceptively headstamped and have excess cartridge headspace if it got back in a .280 gun.
Know what you are shooting, know what you are recommending.
The biggest issue why you can't just neck down 30-06 to 7mm with a 7x57 {edit:}die is the shoulder on a 7x57 is .429". The shoulder on the 30-06 is .449". If the 7x57 were to press down on the 30-06 case it would neck it down to 7mm but also move the shoulder down to .429". This is too much movement for the unsupported case to take and somewhere along the case of the 30-06 you are going to get a big fold.
On the flip side, if you adjust the height right, you can use a .280 Rem die to size down 30-06 cases.
Plus one on what Hawk Carse said. The lengths make it difficult too. The best thing to do would be to use a .280 die and do the case trimming after you sized down the case.

or have a 280 reamer run in the barrel and just buy 280 brass.
Or...have a .280 AI run in the barrel and just buy .280 AI brasss (Nosler)[;)]

... or just use the right die (7mm-06) as designed/intended as noted above. [:p][}:)][^][;)]

Where's the fun in that. I just like to see what can and can't be done. Ideally I would just like to get a collet neck sizer from lee after fireforming the brass.

... heck, then just do it and have fun with it! I figured you were stuck ... where's the fun in asking if half the fun is what you claim [?]
