16 Gauge Model 12 - Made in 1914

Hi,
I have a Model 12 in 16 GA. According to the serially number (54,XXX), I believe it was made in 1914, the first year Winchester made the model 12 in 16 GA.
I believe it is a standard model, 26" barrel, full choke. Never modified.
The gun has a patina look...the walnut stock looks good, no major scratches.
What might the value of this gun be?

The short chamber, and the patina finish both negatively impact the collector interest and value.

Do you think refinishing the gun would be a good investment?
The bluing is very worn, but there is not pitting or rust. I do believe the butt-plate was replaced by the look of originals.
Really? Does this gun shoot the 2 9/16?

Yes, really. Winchester did not change the chamber length to the now standard 2-3/4" shell until 1926. Your gun was made with a 2-9/16" chamber, and a shorter ejection port.
No, refinishing the gun is a horrible investment... it will cost you at least $300 to have the work done, and it only be worth $250 - $300 after you have the work done.
