I have just purchased an 1849 pocket Colt revolver at the recent Bonhams auction in Oxford,UK. It has the stagecoach scene on the chambers and on top of the 4inch barrel it has: ADDRESS SAML COLT, second line NEW YORK CITY. The serial number is 26XXX. Can anybody confirm the year of production for me?

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

I'm suprised the auction house didn't have and supply you with information on the revolver. Must have been a pretty slim catalog listing.[:D]

There are a couple folks here that are really knowledgable about Colts and they have extensive reference resources so I'll leave the details to those that are better qualified. However, as you've most likely invested a reasonable sum in your acquisition you may as well take the "plunge" and obtain a Colt letter to have some provenance on the firearm.
