I have a parkerized Remington UMC 1911 and would like to have it reblued.Any info is appreciated.Thankyou
Additional info: I now have this item in my hands. It is a Rem UMC parkerized. However,it has a Colt 1911 slide. I do have a blued Rem UMC slide about 70%. Should I have the whole pistol parkerized so parts will match or just the blued slide? The frame is marked AA (a rework) and is 95%. Can any one recommend a parkerizing service? I am a new but hard core collector. Thankyou

Dont know how I got over the hill without ever getting to the top!

Yes, it's possible to have it reblued. However, it is impossible to restore it to the "original" look. It would have to be buffed & polished, & this would round off sharp edges & make the markings look less distinct, maybe even remove them. And, it will always be a "refinished" gun, with value only as a shooter.

If it were me - actually it WAS me - I'd have it reparked if the current finish looks bad. At least then you will have a nice looking shooter.

Nmyers is correct. Don't do it. The weapons were parked at the governments arsenals in their lifespan. It did honorable service that way.
Reparking is the way to go on these if you have to do anything.

After WWI, many thousands of M1911s were put into storage. During the early days of WWII, some of these were reissued as-is, but many were reworked at various Gov't Arsenals and brought up to partial or full M1911A1 configuration (including parkerizing).

If this is an arsenal rework (the most likely scenario), it should have one of these arsenal rebuild marks on it: http://usgi1911.tripod.com/Inspectors.jpg

If that's the case, it's more valuable just the way it is.

Weren't guns scheduled for parkerizing usually roughly finished? If so, how bad would it look blued?
