CAn someone advise me of the age and possible value for the following revolver?

Colt Detective Special .38 caliber, blue, with square butt and 2" barrel.

Serial #4368xx

This gun has 100% of its bluing and no more than fifty rounds fired through it and has been stored in its original box.

Thank you

    R. L. Wilson's book says that pistol was made in 1935. There is no separate range of serial numbers for the Det. Spec. The serial numbers are in the same range with the Police Positive Specials. Having the original box and finish for a revolver of that age makes it very collectable.

What Herschel says is correct, but the square butt reference is puzzling since the round butt was introduced on the DS in 1933. A 1935 DS should not have a square butt. A Colt round butt is really just a square butt with the corners rounded a bit. A Colt square butt has sharp corners.

Are you sure the butt is square?

I agree. That serial # indicates a 1935 manufacture date, and should have a round butt.

    Blue Book values:

    100% - $795
    98% - $695
    95% - $550
