XP 100 value ?

I found a Remington XP 100 that the owner might be willing to part with, I've not been able to track down a price on this particular gun.
It is chamber in 7mm-08, it is a Remington CUSTOM SHOP gun, and has the wood stock. It has a Burris 2-7 variable on it. I have found other XP's out there for any where from 600 to 900$ but these are not CUSTOM SHOP GUNS. I'm told this was aound a 1000$ gun new.

Any thoughts?

    smitty,

The first note is from a competitive site so I will e-mail you the link to save me from embarrassment. The second is from Gary Reeder's site. Gary is like so many other "custom" people, in that he thinks way too highly of his work or the work of others that he is trying to sell. Plain talk, he's overpriced in my opinion.

This is the same concept that's used by Remington to convince people to pay exorbitant prices for average work. They use the term 'Custom Shop' in the attempt to get people to part with larger sums of money for a product that doesn't perform any better than their regular offerings. It's all marketing. Please don't misunderstand me, I'm all for marketing and making money and capitalism...except when it is fallacious, or maybe I should say misleading. Something from the 'Custom Shop' should perform better than the same thing that I can buy for a lot less money. Don't get all worked up over the term "Custom Shop" and think that you have to pay huge prices for something just because it has that term in the description. Offer a fair price that you can live with and if it is refused, tip your hat, say thank you and walk away. There are XP's out there with reasonable prices, they just might not be for sale right now. Patience.

The other things to consider are the condition of the firearm, how many shots have been fired, barrel condition, condition of the optics, etc. To me, it doesn't matter price-wise whether it is from Remington's Custom Shop or a real Custom Shop, I offer what I think that a particular firearm is worth. In my opinion, without seeing this XP, it should be in the $600.00 area, especially if it's been shot. If it's been shot a lot, it's worth a lot less. It sounds like you want to buy a shooter, not a wall hanger, so don't pay a bunch for a pistol that has many, many rounds through it. You don't want to have to pay to have it re-barreled right away. Also, don't fall for the strategy of "but it's RARE" either.

Slow down and take your time to analyze what he has and don't get carried away with silliness. Pay for what the firearm is not what someone wants you to believe it is. If this one isn't right, wait, another one will come along.

    Best.
