Anyone know how much a Hartford arms Gatling gun, model 1883, in seemingly 90 to 98% original condition is worth?

    Hello boltthrower...

    More than likely it is MUCH more than most of us can afford[V]

    I saw an early Colt made Gatling Gun (not nearly in 90%+ condition I might add) go for $175,000 at an auction last year. I would assume that one in high condition will be nearly double that figure.

    I'll give you $100 for it. [:D]

    Seriously, It's hard to tell what something like that is worth. Someone recently listed a Colt 1877 Gatling gun here with a buy it now price of $135,000. It did not sell. http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=15659542

    I would say if you were selling one you could get the most money out of it by listing it with a well known and well advertised antique firearms auction house.

    If you are looking to buy one, bottom line is: what's it worth to you?

    Cabela's in Dundee Michigan had 2 for sale a couple years ago. They both went for over $100,000. They were not in the condition you describe although they were fully functional. For that condition and completely original you can set your own price....kind of like having an original Colt Walker....you set the price higher than it's worth, you sell it for that price...you make a lot of money and then regret selling it for the rest of your life!     Boltthrower;
    The Hartford Arms, '83, while not as well know as the Colt Gattling's, in the condition you discribe, is worth well over $100,000. Careful inspection should be made to determine if it original. Surprizingly, there were copies of the Hartford's and Colt/Gattlings. Considering the work involved to produce one of these, it would hardly seem worth the effort. I'm curios, Do you remember the number of barrels, Caliber, was the rotor head steel or brass and was the crank handle on the right or left side? I am something of a student of these forbearers of the modern Mini-guns. These particular guns were relatively small in number to begin with, and oddly few surviving examples are still around. Given there size and weight, one would think they would still be around. One explanation I have heard, is that many were distroyed when taken out of service.

    I'll have to look at it this evening to answer those questions. I'm pretty sure it had 7 barrels and a brass rotor head, but not positive. Theres a chrome reverse cram throzzle rod if that helps. I'll send an update tomorrow.
