What shotgun barrel is best for this type of shooting, trap and skeet. Modified or cylinder ?

CS, in a skeet gun you're better off with a skeet choked barrel, which is cylinder or slightly reverse choked (muzzle is more open than the bore). 26" or so barrel length because you want a fast handling gun.
In a trap gun you want a tighter choke because the shots are longer, 16-21 yards behind the trap. Longer barrels are generally better for trapshooting because of the longer sight plane which can, it is said, be pointed more precisely.
    Hope this helps,

There are several good books out there to give you an introduction to the shotgun sports, trap, skeet and sporting clays. In trap the birds are flying away from you and different tangents and elevations. In skeet you move around a D shaped figure with several stations. From those stations you shoot at clays flying from a low house on your right and a high house on the left. These clays cross the field going slightly away. Some stations are doubles, one from each house at the same time. In sporting clays, you go around a course, sort of like playing golf and shoot at set stations. The clays there can be doubles or singles, going away or coming at you, crossing or even on the ground like rabbits.

depends if you are a skilled skeet shooter or not. if you are a first timer, modified. if you can shoot....use cyl. mod will catch those birds if you hesitate and need to make a long shot to catch up to them. on trap...if you are beginner use full. if you are quick shot, use modified. bottom line....the all round choke is modified if you plan on shooting both games with one gun.

You may also go to search on the internet. type in trap shooting or skeet or even sporting clays, from there on you could spend as much as you wish reading and looking at pics. No matter which shot gun sport you pick you will have fun and there is not shortage of someone wanting to help you at the ranges. enjoy.

I used to shoot skeet but could never find a recipe that made them tender enough to eat.
