I bought some ammo it's 357 magnum 158gr Lead Semi-Wadcutter 50rds. On top of the box it says "CAVIM FABRICA DE MUNICIONES". The question is the brass on the rim and primers are darker than the sides, what causes this and will it be safe to shoot? Thanks guys

Brass on older ammo will sometimes show differences in discoloration. Also I believe that the quality of "brass" is a factor in the rate of oxidation (discoloring).

Generally speaking, discoloration of the "brass" does not mean that the ammunition is not safe to shoot. Discoloration though can be an indicator or storage conditions. In this matter you can see the ammo and I can't so if your not comfortable w/ it .... don't fire it.

However, I've no experience with the brand you've mentioned, and hopefully one of the other members can speak specifically to this brand.

I believe CAVIM is from Venezuela. Excellent ammo. The discoloration is possibly from the annealed brass. I wouldn't sweat it.

I've shot and still have some "CAVIM" ammo in 308(7.62 NATO). Seems to be decent quality. It's made down in Venezuela. It stands for "Compania Anonima Venezolana de Industrias Militares" -- As far as the discoloration goes I'm sure it's oxidation as stated by C. Man. The 308 is annealed and discolored on the neck area but no where near the base. -- Your guess is as good as mine on weather to shoot it or not without looking at it in person. I'd probably shoot one in a strong revolver and see what happens if it doesn't look extremely bad........[8D]

Consider Federal Gold 38 wadcutter goes for about 16 per 50, 7 might be ok, but with the oxidation might be a little high.
