a customer of mine came in the other day and asked if I had ever heard of one of these , supposedly marked , made for u.s. pilots as a survival tool , commerical made ??? any ideas (I know, already informed him of the legalities!).......

    The one's I'm familiar with, were made as tear gas projectors, years ago. ( Lake Erie Chemical & Federal Laboratories ).

    The .410 shell was loaded with a tear gas compound, along with a small propelling charge.

    Although they were chambered for a .410 shotgun shell, they were never manufactured or sold as firearms, to be used with any sort of projectile or shot.

    Don't know if the military used a similar device to launch flares?
