Underrated .22 mag guns out there?

Simple question. I'll be attending a gun show in mid-May; are you aware of any particularly good values in a .22 magnum carbine? I've lately heard some remarkably bad things about 10/22s, so I'm interested in wider experience with diverse brands, and particularly any under-appreciated, quality guns out there, in either semi-auto or bolt. I don't have Anschutz money, period. I DO want an excellent shooter if this .22mag venture is to be worthwhile. I'm willing to consider suggestions for an alternative cartridge if the price is as good or better and the characteristics are superior, but please leave out the .17s for this round. I'm just looking for a fresh view of an old subject before the show.

Yes the semi's have had a terrible time wit hthe .22 mag cartridge. Ruger started their 10/22 line then stopped for several months to work the bugs out , I believe the ones made recently are much better. We like the CZ line and I believe they make a nice .22mag bolt action. I recommend that. I believe the model is 452 or 527 off the top of my head.

God gave us all a gift. Have you found yours yet ?

MFI You stole my idea. I would also suggest the CZ. They have nice wood, great bluing and they are great shooters. All of the CZ 452's I have gotten in have had a sticky bolt about half way through the cycle, but everyone that has bought one has come back and said that it smoothed out after a little use. It just needs to break in a little. You could probably get one for about $350 or less. Good luck

I just bought a CZ 452 American, in 22 magnum, for my son. The test target that came with it had 4 rounds in a dime size group and the 4th was a flyer. It performs as well as his 452 Lux in 22lr. It takes about 100 rounds to smooth everything out, but compared to the NEW Marlins and Rugers, it's far superior. When you buy a 10/22 you end up putting 100's of dollars into it to make it perform well. CZ's perform out of the box. They cost more, but you get what you pay for.

    My two cents.

The CZ .22 mag is one of the most accurate I have ever shot. My buddy bought one while stationed in Germany. I had a Marlin model 922($279) NIB and it was so-so. I sold it and bought a Rem. 597($259) NIB. It is super accurate, but has a cheesy plastic clip. I have not had any trouble out of it, but have read alot of negative feedback. If you can afford the CZ, I say get it.

Might look around for a Marlin Mod. 783 bolt action. It comes with a full size stock and a tubular magazine. Trigger is more than acceptable, and it has a bit of weight to it.

I've had mine for about 18 years, and it shoots great! Never had a malfunction. Might be able to find one in the $100-$150 range.

I have a Marlin 882L in 22 magnum. It is a well built rifle for the money. It feels like a centerfire rifle, not a 22.It has a seven shot removeable magazine,a laminated stock and shoots equal to,or better than my wife's Winchester Model 61M in 22 magnum.

I have used a Marlin 882 bolt action for years, very satified with the accuracy and the reliability of the rifle. Please have a great day! tejaswrangler [:)]

i've had a armscorp precision model 1500 in 22 mag for 12 or 13 years now. pretty good gun for the price but i have to say my marlin 83ts is more accurate and better built. there's a number of real nice winchester 9422's in 22 mag around here, which have great accuracy too.

For what it is worth I have one of the reworked Ruger 10/22 magnums. No problems at all so far, pretty darn accurate also. I have put maybe 500-600 rounds through it. What was the problem with them?

Remington has really worked on the 597. I have one in 22lr and its more accurate then any 10/22 I've shoot.
