hi, just wodering if anybody has had this problem and knows how to fix. after firing a shell in my 1100, often the bolt stays back(action remains open). i have to push the little tab, not sure what its called, on the floorplate. my friend has the same problem. it doesn't always happen, just at the worst times. thanks in advance for any help.

hello again, the piece that i have to push is the carrier latch. and yes, i still have shells in the mag when this happens.

Too vague. Knowing the make/model of the pistol/rifle might help. (Probably a rifle, but like I said... "too vague".)

1100 IS A REMINGTON SEMI AUTO SHOTGUN.

IS THE MAG. SPITTING THE NEXT ROUND OUT? THE 1100 LOCKS OPEN WHEN MAG. IS EMPTY . IF A ROUND IS NOT ALLOW OUT OF THE MAG. IT WOULD LOCK OPEN BECAUSE IT'S EMPTY ,OR IT THINKS IT IS . CHECKOUT FEEDLATCH AND INTERCEPPTOR INSIDE OF RECIEVER AT MOUTH OF THE MAG. TUBE.ONE OF THESE TWO IS WERE YOUR PROBLEM IS . WHEN THERE IS NOT ANOTHER ROUND TO FEED YOUR GUN THINKS IT'S EMPTY AND LOCKS OPEN LIKE IT SHOULD IF EMPTY.
HOPE THIS HELPS! LET ME KNOW IF NEED HELP WITH THEM?

I'm inclined to agree with thinman (although I wish he'd stop using all capital letters).
I don't have my schematic in front of me right now (but you can view them at Remington's site or order a paper copy) but I think your gun thinks its empty when it obviously is not. I am not sure what mechanism triggers that, but I think when you find it you'll find your problem. Of course if it locks back but the shell in the magazine is released and it just stops on the carrier then this wouldn't be the problem.

Ah, I was bored so I looked it up...
Your diagram is here: http://www.remington.com/pdfs/om/om_11001187.pdf and the diagram is on page 20 and parts list is page 21. I think the parts you should check is the intercepter latch (parts 58, 59, & 60).

Again, this is ONLY if your magazine is not releasing the shell onto the carrier THEN it locks back. This is only if it acts like it's empty (but keeps shells in the magazine).

Another possibility is the magazine could be gunked up a bit and it won't allow the shells to feed fast enough. The easy way to check this is to cycle a few magazines by hand as fast as you can while listening for the tell-tale sounds of the shell hitting the magazine stop.

    Hope this helps. [:)]

Basically, you'll narrow it down to whether it's moving back like it should. More than likely it's just gunked up and a good cleaning will fix it. If it doesn't, I'd try the spring next (it's maybe bent, broken, or just worn out).

jag, before you check all those other parts, remove the magazine follower spring. Leave the follower in the tube and tip the gun up and down and see if it will slide the length of the tube without hanging up. If it does follow the advise of Bambihunter and Thinman. 1100's have a bad habit of picking up pieces of plastic and powder debris in the trigger group and in behind the shell latch. Some thing else to look at when it does this is if the mag. cap is tight. Some of the synthetic stocks don't have the detent in the forend and will loosen up after a few shots. Thinman has it right though, either the shells are not coming in contact with the shell stop quick enough(damaged or dirty mag. tube) or one of those parts is damaged. Either way, it's telling itself the mag. is empty,so the bolt locks open. hope this helps, let us know what you find.
