I am considering buying an Arcus 94. I've read some good stuff about this pistol. I just wanted to know if anyone has had some first hand experience with one or can tell me if its a good buy or not. Thanks quote:I know what you're thinking: "Did he fire six shots, or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But, being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya punk?

I have one which was imported by D.I.G, Virginia Beach, VA. My example is a two-tone with a black slide and silver frame and is a pretty good looking pistol which I believe is better made than the FEG Hungarian HiPower copies. The trigger on the Arcus is typically very heavy, but this was improved by my removing the magazine disconnect feature (I DO NOT suggest that you do this however). The Arcus sights are not too bad (although still too small for my tastes) and the rubber grip fits my small hands very nicely. With an empty 13 round magazine in place the Arcus weighs 2 pounds 3-1/4 ounces while one of my typical Browning made P35's weighs in at 2 pounds even. A good comparison pistol to the Arcus is the FM Argentine Hi-Power. My own FM pistol weighs the same as the Arcus but has a nicer rear sight and the ring hammer which I happen to prefer over the Arcus' spur hammer. The Arcus rubber grips are much more comfortable than those found on the FM copy. If you can disaasemble any Hi-Power type you will find nothing mysterious about the Arcus as it is very straight forward. I paid $200 for my Arcus pistol back in November 1999 and consider it well worth the money.

The only problem I had with them in the past was their grip. They used a copy of a Hogue, but it was just a copy. It wasn't the made from the same material and I had two of the grips tear as they were on the gun. One came in completely torn in half from the stress of being on the gun. The other was a replacement they sent which did the same thing within two weeks. I finally just used a real Hogue and never had a problem again. Other wise very nicely done. As previously mentioned, slightly heavier/bulkier than the Browning, but well done.
