Hi,

I am trying to find out about this gun my grandpa found. Everything I post is all I know, and is what my grandpa has told me about the gun.

He said it was an over and under musket loader. The barrels are two different sizes. The top barrel is larger (in diameter) than the bottom. Also, the ram rods are located on the sides of the barrel, one of course being larger than the other to corispond with the larger and smaller barrels. Both barrels are hammer flint locks.

The only inscription on the gun is the name R. Foster

My grandpa says he thinks its from the 1700's, but it could just look older than it really is. Anything you cans can tell me would help greatly. Im just trying to figure out who made it, and when it was made really, but if you know more, that would be very helpful.

Im sorry I dont have a picture for you guys.

Thanks in advance

Hello a Musket is normally thought of as being a smooth-bore long gun shot useing both hands A muzzle loader on the other hand is any firearm loaded from the front end of the barrel . a Flint lock is an fireing system that uses a rock/flint to scrape against a piece of steel frizzen to cause a spark to light a small amount of powder in a small pan the flame travelels through a flash hole and lights the main powder charge . now a percussion muzzle loader uses a Nipple and then placeing a cap on the nipple part of the fireing system a hammer is released by pulling the trigger the hammer sets off the cap and this fire in turns lights the main powder charge. Look at a topic started 12/27/06 by member JIMET it sounds like he has a gun like yours.
