Can a Beretta 92 convert to a 96? 9mm to .40

I saw that Cheaper Than Dirt was selling Beretta 96 .40cal barrel and slide assemblies and claimed they could be put on a Beretta 92 9mm thus converting it from 9mm to .40 cal. Has anyone done this or know if it works reliably?

I would not try it. The pistol designed for the 9mm cartridge may not be able to handle the larger .40 S+W load. The reverse though is possible. You can make your Beretta 96 .40 into a 9mm with a new barrell and mag. Like I said, I would not convert a 9mm to a .40. What if you get hurt?

If you check Beretta's web site, it shows that conversion kit. It' factory original and CDNN has them used for about $329 if I remember correctly.
