This is more Bill Goforth's field of expertise, rather than mine. But I will hazard a guess regarding your feeding problem. Seems it might be trouble with the extractor. The .22 is a rimmed case. If the carbine is designed to have a controlled feed? The rim of the case is supposed to be fed up from the magazine between the extractor and the face of the bolt. If the extractor is broken or malfunctions the problem you described might be the result?

a common problem with some models of 22 is you have to tweak the mag lips just right to feed, specifically due to softer mag metal, treat mags carefully & dont drop them...if everything is clean in this area & extractor looks right could also be catch pin that holds mag in place is worn or bent...that is a 22 mag 15 rd in a dummmy larger housing that is extra weight & easy to bump, try holding mag by hand to check for slack (position) & shoot, this is same basically as the erma brand 22 carbine

The condition you describe is called,"stovepipe malfunction".
It occurs when either the mag spring is pushing too hard on the cartridge, and when the bolt body starts to strip it from the mag; it squirts forward, or the extractor is frozen in position and won't grasp the rim.
Check the extractor spring and see if your mags are Iver Johnson or some other brand, modified to fit.

one mag is Iver and the other 2 are aftermarket..they all 3 do the same thing although after I put some lube on what moving parts I could get to it did seem to function better while hand working the action(too late to fire it tonight).I would love to take it apart to clean it real good but read on another forum not to because of the small parts.I really need get info on how to field strip it.How can I check the extractor without taking the gun apart? I thought about maybe smoothing up the feed ramp? THANKS for your help! The rifle has a weaver V22 scope on it and my friend said if I can get the gun working the scope is mine! I need it for a romanian M1969..........

You have an Iver Johnson Model EW.22HBA, if this helps you run it down.

Wish I could post a pic of page 172 in the Numrich Catalog #22; it shows a cherry schematic of the Erma Model EM-1 Carbine the IJ was based upon.
