I was surprized to find that China had taken a SKS and an AK-47 and made a rifle called the Type 63. I am interised in finding more information about this type of rifle like: history, types, and price. Thanks.

Thanks Henry that helped some but it is kind of like a shot in the dark on dogpile. It has info but not everything plus there seems that China has more than one weapon named the Type 63[:p]. As for what Old has to say, I dissagree so a point. Yes all cowboy guns are junk unles you spend an arm and a leg to get them tuned which you are better off getting the real deal in the long run. However, Norinco makes some very well made 1911s and SKSs, which I own one of both and enjoy very much. So I guess that if it is older (pre-1900s), China can't make it, but if it is of the last era it might be good

Not the type 63 but thought this might help.

    Type 68 (PR China)

Type 68 assault rifle with 15 rounds magazine
    Caliber: 7.62x39 mm
    Action: Gas operated, rotating bolt
    Overall length: 1029 mm
    Barrel length: 521 mm
    Weigth: 3.49 kg
rate of fire: 750 rounds per minute
Magazine capacity: 15 or 30 rounds detachable box magazines

The Type 68 rifle, as its name implies, was adopted by PLA in 1968. It is interesting development because it represents a mix of features taken from other designs, mostly from AK-47 Kalashnikov (known in China as Type 56 assault rifle) and from SKS Simonov karbine (known in China as Type 56 carbine).

The Type 68 is a gas operated, selective fire veapon. It shares the stock design and receiver outline with SKS, but instead of tilting bolt uses AK-47-type rotating bolt action. The gas system is somewhat original and not similar to SKS nor to AK-47, and has dual positions gas regulator. This rifle is fed from detachable box magazines, that are similar to Ak-47 magazines. According to some sources, AK-47 magazines can be used in Type 68 rifle, but it should be slightly modified (a bolt holdopen device must be removed). Type 68 features non-detachable, folding spike bayonet.

Thanks fast that held alot of informaiton that I was wanting to know. I guess the reason that they are not sold to the us mainstream market is due to the selective fire and no one in China has alowed this gun to be sold as a semi-auto. However, it would be a neat weapon to place along with the AK and SKS, I guess you could say it is the best of both worlds. A gun that is as rugged as a AK and detachable magazine, but with the accuracy of a SKS rifle. Thanks for all of your help.
