I needed a break so I thought I would put down a couple of observations on your question.
There are two types of Winchester Model 70's:
<Pre-'64 Controlled Round feed with exterior claw extractor cone breech
<Post-'64 Push Feed clip-type extractor in bolt lug flat breech
Bolts from one type action will not fit and work in the opposite action. Bolts from the same type of action and action length will work together but you need to make sure that the bolt face diameters are correct. In essence, if you use Pre-'64 bolts in Pre-'64 actions the bolts interchange however the .270 Win. boltface won't pick up the .300 WM rim. Winchester didn't CNC align threading either so the headspace will most likely be wrong as well.
Best.
i have the Post-'64 Controlled Round feed with exterior claw extractor cone breech that is both on my winchester model 70 rifle`s in the 270 and the 300win mag.both bolts look the same.the bolt from the 270 fits in the 300win and locks up.if i would put both bolts on the table you can not tell the difference.the only thing that might not work is that the rim dia. might be different in size.
must be a classic model
