HK 300 Charging Handle Won't Lock Open

I have an H&K 300 in 22 mag. The lever on the charging handle fell off the gun at the range one day. I found the lever and the screw but believe there is a spring missing as the handle will not stay in the locked open position. Anybody know if I am missing a part or know where I can get a schematic of this rifle?
