sight removal

When removing the fear sight from a Browning BAR do I simply tap it out to the side or should I go about this another way?

Is "fear" the Front and Rear sight? Or is your reference for just the rear sight on the Browning BAR. The only reason I ask is because the schematics that I have show that the rear sight is screwed down. The standard BAR is a small sight with two screws and the Safari model sight is larger and has more adjustment.
If for some reason you have a dovetail sight or portion thereof, the technique is to hold the barrel in a vise as close to the dovetail as possible to minimize the vibrations but transfer the greatest amount of energy from the punch and hammer to the base of the dovetail. The barrel has to be controlled and held solidly. Use tape if you're afraid of marking the barrel. It should be a sharp rap. Skip the nylon drift, they aren't worth a hoot for getting stuck dovetails to move. Use an aluminum or brass rod and a good hammer with a steel face, again no nylon face.
Best.
