I have a new england pardner 12 ga single shot shotgun with a rifled bbl.I was hoping to dril and tap the bbl to install a scope base. The bbl is about .110" - .120" thick in the area around the chamber" this is where screw hole would go".Im thinking too thin .Need experts opinion ,is it too thin ? if not how deeply could I drill? Thanks in advance for any response.

I'm pretty sure the 12ga's are too thin. Most gunsmiths won't touch it.
Post a ?? over on graybeards forum. There's an entire NEF section. They can direct you to a smith who does do it. I don't recall his name or address, but they'll let you know all the details.

(Google search Graybeard forum to find the site)

    rlnblk,

You certainly don't need that other forum. The walls on your barrel are too thin to drill and tap for scope mounts. You might be able to soft solder some blocks onto the barrel to use as bases but the other is not a solution.

    Best.

You could send your 12 GA action to H&R/NEF. They can fit a 20GA. heavyweight rifled slug barrel to it with a scope base already installed for about $100. Even they don't sell 12 GA drilled and tapped barels. If you have a 10 GA receiver, they can fit a heavy 12 GA barrel with scope base to it. That's the only safe way I know to scope a NEF 12 GA barrel.
