I won a new weatherby 30.06 In either 97-or 98 I beleive it was 98 any ways its a Mark V sporter 22 inch. wood stock dont know if they made synthetic. Brand new in the box still with the protective rubber molding on the end of the bolt. Like I said mint condition never been shot except for the Target in the box with the bullet hole that they shoot at the factory. I believe when i won it the guy said it was a 1000 dollar gun any ideas what i could get now for it, any help would be appreciated.

NOT a Weatherby expert- but I THINK the Mark V Deluxe Bolt Action Rifle is one of the few Weatherbys made in 30-06 caliber. Gun Trader's Guide shows around $1100 for new-in-box- but that IS a retail price. A dealer would offer substantially less- they need to make a profit. The earlier rifles were made in Germany and demand a bit more- your time frame is probably Japanese manufacture (1970-1994). There WAS a version with a synthetic stock, but the deluxe was nice walnut. You might run a search for auctions that closed in the past 90 days on the auction side, see if any sold, and what they went for. Bigger calibers demand bigger dollars, so read what sold.

The Mark V Sporter was offered for a couple years, I own one in .338 Winchester Magnum, which if my memory serves me accurately I bought in the early 1990's. It is a true Mark V action, 9 lugs, 60 degree bolt lift, and with a Weatherby Mark V style stock, though the stock's wood and finish is of a lesser grade and less fancy finish than the familiar deluxe Mark V. Metal was blued in a standard polish instead of the high-polish gloss blue. These rifles were also distinguished from the deluxe Mark V's by being offered in standard calibers instead of the Weatherby calibers, thus my .338 Winchester Mag and your 30-06. These are not the same rifles as the Weatherby Vanguard series, which I believe replaced the Mark V Sporter. The Sporters were made in Japan.

I would swear it has the high polish gloss blue, To be honest with you I store the rifle in my Grandfaters collection at his house and he mentioned it to me on the phone yesterday and I forgot about the gun. I was 19 at the time i bought a new ruger when I was 14 and it was all I needed a remembered thinking it would be nice to keep one day for my kids or whatever. I will have to go over there and get more infor on it. Like I Said its a Mark V Sporter 22inch 30-06. I have been told a few things from its not listed to its not worth anything so I'm getting a little confused i guess. I will have to take a trip to their house tomorrow and take a better look at it.

[8D]--Yo pauly-I'm afraid you haven't provided enough info--

--It may not be a Mk 5, could be a Vanguard or Classic I/II--

--does the bolt have two locking lugs or 9 ???

--is the finish oil or poly gloss--

--does it have the WBY grip cap and forend cap ??

--values run from $500/1800--lots of variables--

--Does it have sights or is it JUST drilled for a scope ???
