A friend of mine is getting 5 of them from CMP. I've been looking for a bolt action .22 for awhile but just haven't pulled the trigger yet (pun intended).

I did a search, here on GB, and the prices are all WAY above what he wants. Is there something different about them? Or is it just a grading thing?

    Just guessing here. CMP. Is this what used to be the DCM?
    The 82's were, if memory serves me well, offered in a military training configuration in addition to the many civilian versions. The military ones had prone type target stocks. Never saw one, but I wouldn't be surprised if the finish was less the typical high polish blue of the standard 82's. While I've seen 82 stocks that ranged from gorgeous to ordinary, metal was always superb. My (again, guess here) is that the higher prices you see are for the nicer civilian sporters and that the bargain CMP's may be less dressy and perhaps ridden hard and put away wet. Depending on what the price is, they may be great deals, and even have collector value in their own right. I'll wait with you to here from someone who really knows what they're talking about.

    CMP=Civilian Marksmanship Program

    That's pretty much what I thought, especially the "rode hard and put away wet" part. These came from ROTC programs and such. I don't expect perfection but I do want accuracy.

    These rifles might be anything but rode hard. in 2005 the last year I was at Perry they had bunches of them Brand New never fired but with no sights $500.00 only problem they were packed in a black plastic bag from factory and when some moron needed to check the serial # he used a box knife to cut the bag . Big knife cut on butt stock one end to the other "NOT JUST ONE BUT ALL OF THEM" does not hurt how they shoot but they are heavy bull barrel."PRAISE THE HARD-BALL GUN"

    The CMP Model 82 new Kinber .22 rifles are going for 600.00 plus freight. CMP also have used Kinber 82 rifles with out sights and may have other parts missing for 150.00, they may be gone by now.

    Six hundred is a tough nut to crack for a .22 rifle.
