What year did thompson center contender come out? I have an earlier model 23-25 win 10" bbl with bushnell 2.5x scopes and TC shoulder holster. I never really could find any info or value on it. I bought 10 boxes of shells when i bought it in 1991 for 235.00, back then shells were 17.95 a box. My father bought a newer G1 and there is difference in the engraving of wolf and my has contoured grips, mine is just a little more detailed. It is pleasant to shoot. thanks

    I just bought a
    TC contender with a 45/410
    barrel and 22 match barrel-$350.
    question is :what kind of
    accuracy can I expect out
    of the 45/410 barrel shooting
45 colt.i have no interest in the 410
ans do they sell 45 colt only barrels
    without the long chamber.
    Thanks--rong

Went to the local sporting goods store yesterday to look for a bow for my son for 4-H and went to check on any new arrivals in the gun department. I knew I shouldn't have but I did and found a T/C contender in .357 mag . It is in 98% condition with Pachmayer grip and fore end. Now I have had several contenders over the years and seem to get traded out of them and I would like to get another one. The deal is 260.00 out the door. What I would like to know is it has a Virgin Valley 12" blued barrel and is there any demand for these as I would like a larger cal. Thanks for any info....Bull[8D]

Are the barrels interchangeable between the Contender and the G2-Contender?

Go over to fleabay, put Contender Barrels in the search block. Your question will be answered. ( I believe? that Virgin Valley, is the name used on T/C's custom shop products ). If this is so, the barrel MIGHT? be worth more then one of the plain vanilla T/C barrels?

    bull300wsm,

Fox Ridge Outfitters is the "custom shop" suppliers of barrels for T/C. Virgin Valley Custom Guns was an offshoot from Bullberry Barrel Works, both up in Hurricane, Utah. VVCG has since gone out of business except for a few small items and no longer makes barrels or firearms. VVCG did have a good rep while they were in the custom business and their barrels were usually better than average quality.

There has always been a thriving market for T/C- and Encore-type barrels. They seem to be like peanuts, you can't stop with one...
I see more .357 Mags for sale than any other barrels except the 45 Colt/.410 with the recoil tamer on them. Take a look at Mike Bellm's website to see if there is another idea you could use.

    http://www.bellmtcs.com/FAQ/Why.htm

It's none of my business but I would get the bow for your son first...

    Best.

Thanks guys for the info ,I was just trying to see if there was any interest in the VV barrels. The .357 mag doesn't do anything for me as I am looking for deer and elk size chamberings , something in the JDJ line. Nononsense , I pick the bow up next week and my son cannot wait[:p]. This is his fourth year in 4-H shooting sports. 1st year pellet and .22, 2nd year trap, 3rd year .22 and muzzleloading ( he won fifth in state) and this year muzzloading and archery. To top it all off his younger brother starts this year ( .22 and pellet pistol). Where does all my money go???? Its a lot of fun with these two[:D][:D][8D]...ps the youngest (a girl[:D]) starts in two years....Bull[8D]

Virgin Valley was a top quality provider of barrels for T/C handguns. If you're getting the 357 Mag bbl AND a T/C Contender frame for $260.00 - that's a great deal. I have a VV Encore bbl in 308 Winchester and it is accurate as heck.

VV became MGM ( Match Grade Machine) and they continue to make barrels and such for T/C products. I have a 375 H & H handgun barrel from them, cost about $350.00 so you can see what a deal your $260.00 gets. Steve Stratton, also formerly of VV has his own T/C product line. Both have always been very high quality and good folks to work with.

Thanks dfletcher , I knew it was a pretty good deal from watching different auction sites but very seldom do you see the VV barrels. I guess I could keep the VV and let my son shoot it and find one or two for me...Thank you...Bull
