AK and the laminate stock

I have a Romanian AK-47. Im assuming it has a laminate stock. How you would you go about redoing the stock real nice? Just like regular wood. Wondering if any of you have any nice tricks.

How about buying some of those cool after-market replacement stocks. Perhaps a side-folder or adjustable stock? Forearm grips with accessory rails? Should look pretty cool then. If you check around you can even get stocks in OD green, Desert beige. I would not waste my time refinishing the cheap AK wood.
