    Thinking about a CZ52.
Have seen adds saying ammo is PLENTIFUL + CHEAP.
Approx. 2500 "Ending Today" auctions and found
    only 1 listing.
Looked at "ALL auctions" and found only 3 or 4.
Prices were not that bad since I won't shoot it
THAT much, but I don't know about the "PLENTIFUL" part.
    Is avalability expected to increase?

IT'S WHAT PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THEMSELVES THAT MAKES THEM AFRAID.

I just ordered a Yugo Tokarev and am new to that style of gun. Does anyone feel like offering suggestions as to ammo and a good holster.
I am told the Polish ammo is of poor quality and so I ordered Romanian surpluss ammo to get used to the gun. My question is in regards to hp or sp ammo. Is there anything out there that would make this a good ccw gun?

It is a good price and a potent round. A lot of the surplus ammo out there is junk, but most any pistol you'll find it the caliber will be of good quality.

Don't have ballistic info on hand, but it has a pretty high velocity for handgun bullets- more so than the dimensionally similar bottlenecked 7.63 Mauser for example. I believe it has a slight edge on the 9mm but again, don't have the data handy.

The factory load for these runs about 365 ft lbs muzzle energy, with an 87 gr bullet. 9mm Parabellum runs about 400 ft lbs, heavier bullet. Lot of penetration, not a lot of stopping power.

If you reload you can push a 110gr Hornady XTP at 1688 fps. That will leave a mark[:D]

    Good luck

O.K. , this a strange caliber , smaller bullit and higher velocity , have heard rumors of dsome of the current surplus ammo being even hotter (machine gun ammo?),we have sold several of the cz52's , they seem to be of very good quality with a few minor glitches , inexspensive and fun ...One draw-back , ammo is not available just any-place (mart stores, ect.)and who really knows what/where/when on this surplus ammo...
Henry : hard/trcky to take down ??? drop mag , push down take down buttons , retract and remove slide ??? just about as simple as anything else ???If you like one of these , just buy it and have fun !
    Thanks !!!

Shot myself with one of those. Hurt for a while. Didn't have the brain working good one saturday afternoon, was out shooting up an old water tank. Was done and leaving, had 1 round left, fired it into the bottom of the tank which was dished. Sent the bullet right back at me, hit my leg and stopped just under the skin, was lucky. Wife wanted to go to the emergency room, got to thinking that I'd not only spend the rest of the weekend filling out paper work and dealing with the cops but woul dnever hear then end of it from my buddies. Pulled it out with tweezers, washed it in peroxide and made a note to never shoot at the dished bottom of a water tank again.

Surplus or reloaded 7.62 x 25 ammo muzzle energy is greater than 450 ft. lbs. safe for Tokerev's and CZ 52's the factory stuff is made safe for hundred year old Mausers. The only 9 mm Para loads I have seen that break 400 ft. lbs. are the +P stuff, the best of the standard loads are in the mid to high 300's.

The surplus stuff chronographs about 1550fps out of a Tokarev.
Dont buy the 1950s ammo unless it's really cheap because of a lot of case neck splitting. It's safe enough though.
I noted Wolf 7.62x25 ammo is just now coming in but at higher prices than surplus.
Ever since shooting through a railroad tie overseas with Chinese SMG ammo, I've been impressed with the Tokarev.

It killed alot of Germans in WW2, that is for sure. The Russians were thinking for a time on returning to an updated 7.62x25mm due to its superb penetration, but opted for the 9mm in the Grach Pistol.
