Open the action, and look on the frame under the crane (bit that swings out) see if there is a number there. May be something like 10-2, or 36-4.

If your Smith & Wesson has a Model Number, it will be located here:

    ModelNumber.jpg

When you are posting a partial serial number, it is more helpful if you replace the last two digits with xx. All digits can be important, but the last two digits are the least important. You need the xx's so we will know how many digits are missing.

If your Smith & Wesson was made before 1957, it won't have a model number in the yoke. Without a Model Number, we will need the best description you can give. A picture would be even better.

If you do have a Model Number, such as 10-2, 15-3, 586, etc., and a partial serial number, somebody on here should be able to find something about your revolver.

    I hope this is helpful.

Based on the serial number, it sounds like you may have a Military & Police model 1905 4th change.

These guns were built on the square or round butt, 2" 4" 5" or 6" barrels. Does yours have adjustable sights? The square butt versions came with adjustables.

It should also have whats called a 5 screw frame. Thats 4 screws on the right side frame one of which may be under the grip and the 5th on the front of the trigger guard.

The Blue Book lists the value of this gun at $400.00 for 100% cond, $230.00 for 95% cond with a 50% premium for the target version.

I agree with Laredo Lefty. It's also known as the "pre-Model 10". I'll add that the Standard Catalog ofr Smith & Wesson says "Original 2" barrel worth substantial premium."

This is mostly a guess, but I think yours was made in the 1930's.

    Does it look like this?
