I've recently aquired a Nylon 66 in 22lr. It hadnt been fired in many years and was seized up. I've torn it down and cleaned it up, but cant seem to get the small 'cartridge feed insert' in properly. I've written to Remington for a manual and only got a exploided view.
If I put the insert in thru the top it blocks the bolt from traveling forward, in thru the bottom interfers with the 'cartridge stop' and wont allow the triggerguard to line up with the pin holes.
I'd rather do it myself instead of taking it to a gunsmith, anyone know what to do?

I fell into a good deal on a very good condition Nylon 66, the date code off the barrel is "LG 10". If I understand the code right that makes this a 1960 DOM. Where would I find the serial number on this? I had thought they were on the receiver cover but this one does not have any stamped on it. Thanks in advance.

Purchased a very nice 1964 MB nylon with the original box to give as a christmas present for my son. Question is that when I work the action I cannot get the bolt to lock back for cleaning the barrel. Does the bolt lock back or am I not doing something right?

I highly recommend you register with www.nylonrifles.com, this is a brand new website, started by the same guy that started the nylon rifle group on yahoo. The yahoo group will soon be closed once most of us members have made the switch to www.nylonrifles.com.

There is alot of smart guys on that site, smarter than me when it comes to working on these. I have been fortunate never to have had to take one apart to work on. They can be a PITA to work on.

Be prepared when you do take it to a gunsmith, he'll likely run you out of his store at gunpoint!![:0][;)] I had one gunsmith tell me that this rifle was his final exam in gunsmith school. It was in pieces on his desk when he got to class and he had to put it back together.

If you really need to take it to one, don't hesitate, don't mess up your rifle if you truly need the help.

E-mail this guy with your very detailed question, I'll bet he can answer you.

    Good luck.

I don't know if this relates to your problem or not. I took one apart several years ago and after many failed tries to get it back together, I called a gunsmith friend. He told me to make certain the action was cocked. If it is not, it won't go back together properly. Somehow I managed to get it cocked and it went together beautifully. Whenever I clean it now, I just make sure it is cocked with the safety on before I take it apart. As already stated, the site listed above on nylon rifles has all the information you need. I looked there and the information is great!
