Get a good 12ga coach gun with screw in chokes

Look for one that does not weigh a lot.
They get heavy quick. I use a Ithica 16ga featherlight.

I love the way a 20 gauge SXS feels, but I'm usually in the field with my Pop's old Winchester 1400 20 Gauge. Anything will work well for rabbits and as with all guns a decesion to buy comes down to two main points:
1) Money
2) Fit
You can spend a bunch of money on a great shotgun, but if it doesn't fit you properly you will not be able to shoot it well. Here are a few examples of what I would find as great rabbit guns in each price range:

Like I said, anything can be great for rabbits, as you can see I prefer a 20 gauge. Keep the barrel around 26" and make sure it has a Mod. or Full choke and you'll be fine.

The secret to a really good rabbit gun is a short, quick pointing barrel. Pretty much the same thing as a quick pointing grouse/upland gun. I'd recommend a 20ga LW 870 Wingmaster or 20ga 870 Express and put a 21 inch remchoke barrel on it. You can't beat those short little barrels in heavy brush. Plus, it really makes the guns 'light' at the end of a long day afield. An 870 pump cycles about as fast as an autoloader once broken in.

Thanks all, HeDAWG, i was looking at the browning semi-auto 22, loads from the back, very nice and i have a 10/22 ruger, i just dont think i am dawg enough yet[:D].

I like to use a simple 410. Cheap, Lite, FUN! Wont rip em up either I shoot em with 8's

bobby, one trick is to shoot them sitting, but hitting them running is not all that tough. I used to hunt with a Cold Woodsman. Now use a rifle. A guy that hunted with my dad an I when I was a kid, said he could put a .22 through the ears of a running rabbit. He proved it too.

O.K. , my all time favorite rabbit gun is a 20 gauge with a mod. choke? Ive had many fried rabit dinners from this combo !
