By "compact" I mean 6.5" in length, or preferably less.

What is the most accurate out there in a moderate price range, please?

Short of doing a shoot off of 40cal pistol in a clamped down hands off range test I don't see you really getting much of an answer. Even then the ammo will be a factor that throws off much of what ever results may be had as different pistols will like some ammo better the others. To my way of thinking the most accurate pistol will be what ever you personally shoot the best. Amonst the many variables are the grip size and style. These are often the first indicators as to what works better for you. The first time I fired a Glock 17 at the range I found out that it and I were a really good fit. I ended up buying the Glock 22, also a good fit, and have never regreted it. So does your hand like the feel of a Glock, the 1911 or? If you don't know, then you might want to look around your area for a range that rents handguns. It will be well worth the money and time to rent several different pistols and see what feels best to you. Also what kind of accuracy are you looking for? Competition, concealed carry, household defence? Many handguns these days can be upgraded with custom kits and parts, so plese tell us more about what you have in mind because as it is now I'll say Glock, the next answer will be HK or Sig and so on.

I agree with ern98, you are going to get a whole bunch of opinions, but here is mine: HK P2000 SK

Yes, I own and love my Glock 23, and it is dead-on accurate.

I was initially interested in it because a gun directory website had it listed a 6.5" length with a 4" barrel. THAT seemed awesome!! But I found out at the shop that it's a full sized pistol(with a 4" barrel), and not a compact for carry really. But I bought it anyway for the feel and the "name". It's just about my favorite now. But I just would like to hear personal opinions on compacts that users here found to be very accurate For Them personally.

Thank you for your great advice. You are right. It is mostly up to the skill and experience of the individual. My hope was to get a couple suggestions of models with 3.5"(or so barrels)that you experts personally found to be really accurate, even with the shorter barrels.

    thank you
(never held a 1911 and don't want a heavy long pistol, but a compact again now)

The HK P2000 SK looks good....but a little out of my price range. Can I get extended magazines to extend the grip a little?

thanks, it is opinions I want...thank you.
    keep them coming, please?

I've looked into the Sig P239. And it looks perfect.
Is it really accurate in the hands of users here??

I'm looking around my area, but finding a good USED one is really very hard and not panned out yet. I'm not finding it with ANY of my local gun shops.

Any suggestions on where I could get one in really good condition, please?

I like it, but can't find anyone that has a good used one!
Again, I know it is a quality pistol new....is it also really accurate, please? I'll keep trying.
But in the mean time, Any others that might be easier to find, and just as accurate for users here?

    thanks guys,
I've settled on the Sig P239.

Thanks....now I'm trying hard to find ANYBODY who sells a little extender to the magazine of a 40 cal. so my pinky isn't swinging in the air, for a better length comfortable grip for my hand.

Anyone know of anything for a 40 cal. P239?
I've found lots of places and suggested places, but they turn out to mot have anything for 40 cal. of this model.
    Help" Please?
