Greetings: givette here. I recently purchased an authentic mid '60's starlight scope mount. The fit is perfect. Fort-Knox solid. My questions are:
1. Will I alter/compromise the fit if I get the mount refinished?
2. If not, please look at the photos below, and recommend a company that will do the refinishing for me...keeping in mind question No.1. Thanks for looking. Joe

Interesting mount I was in NAM in 1965 and each bunker on the perimeter defenses around our divisional compound had one m14 with a starlight we always scanned with our off eye because any kind of light would be like a flash bulb going off. . The STARLIGHT mount we had was different then the one you picture.Cheers Karl

Greetings Karl: First off, there's still a Turnpike Diner in Kingston. (And you thought I forgot). Secondly, the pix in the snipers book by Senich, courtesy of Neal, shows the identical mount, only with the rail approx. 3/4 inch more forward than mine, causing the cut-out for the mounting bolt to be further back along the rail. All the "hard-point" attachments on the rail are correct in relationship to each other. Only on my mount, everything is approx. 3/4 inch further back. Is that the difference you are refering to? Could mine be an earlier, or later variant on the same mount? Back to you. Joe

Hello glad to hear the diner is still there. It has been 42 years and memory fades but one I had was of a different design hard to explain I am going to try to do some research and see if I have any picture. If I remember correctly we were not supposed to take any pictures and the sargent of the guard collected each starlight rifle each morning "maybe to check the battery or"???" and they were stored in the arms room during daylight hours. The M2 50cal and 2 m60's plus claymores, M79, and all ammo stayed in the bunker that was unmanned during the day.
