V.F.W. M1 Garand malfunction ?

I have been asked by my V.F.W. post to clean the 10 M1 Garands they use in various functions. They are having a lot of misfires due to the action not cycling completly. The first ones have very dirty chambers and are not that bad otherwise. Due to the blanks being used is this the normal result ? Any hints on keeping these fine firearms functioning better would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dave

Not cycling completely? Blanks will not cyle the M1 at all. I remember using them in basic & you had to cycle the gun by hand.

I believe that's the purpose of the Blank Firing Adaptor.

I take care of several of these for local v.f.w.'s, first check the operating rod spring. also if the b.f.d. has been drilled you may new to increase the resriction. the instructions say to "start with a clean healthy rifle", most of these are craped out worn rejects soooo you have to make 'allowances'.

Agreed. The BFA is a necessary component to continue a semi-automatic cyclic rate of fire. Lube the rifle wherever you see metal wear on the moving parts:
