Ruger SP 101 32 Magnum

I found a Ruger SP 101 for sale today in .32 Magnum caliber. Gun is 95-98% condition. The barrel is a 3 incher and there is an adjustable
rear sight. I was wondering if anyone owns one of these, how you like it and how acurate it is with magnum loads and with 32 Longs? I own an SP101 with a 2 inch barrel in .357 Magnum and really like everything but the less than smooth double action trigger pull. The asking price is $325. I'm wondering if it would make a good all-purpose target, defense, and small game handgun and if you think the price is about right. Thank you for any replies.

The price is certainly OK. New ones are going for at least $100-$150 more.

Unless you reload? You would be better off with a .22 for target and small game. As loads for .32 revolvers aren't hot sellers, most dealers don't stock a lot of them. You would have to buy on-line in quantity, for a half way decent price.

I got a .357 SP 101, and could never figure out why Ruger dropped the 9mm & .22, then kept the .32 Mag in production.

I purchased one of these several years ago and have enjoyed it a lot. I handload to keep ammo prices down but if you search around you can find some reasonable prices if you buy larger quantities. I also have a Ruger single six in this caliber that is also a blast to shoot. I recently purchased a Marlin Lever action in .32 that I haven't shot yet.

I think that Ruger keeps this cal around because it is an nice compromise for the gals to use for protection. The ammo is very expensive and not always available.

Thanks to all for your replies. I went back today and asked what the best cash price was on the gun. When he said $275 I started counting 20's. I compared it to my SP101 in .357 magnum when I got home. Besides the caliber, there are several differences, 6 shot, adj. sight, 3 inch barrel, and the top strap is a different shape. I already have dies so the next thing is to load some ammo. I think I'll try cast lead wadcutters and see how accurate it is. The trigger is much better than my .357 so I think it has potential.
