I have this old bayonet I bought to have with my k98. dont know anything about it, neither did the dude I bought it from, and I dont know where to look.
most of blade is like new, tip and blood grove show wear from scabbard.
blade is unsharpend.
handle looks like walnut has some dings.
"43 fnj" is on one side
"1480
P" is on the side with the release button.
scabbard is more worn
"1514
e"
and
"2931" written on frog hook side and
"S/173k"
on the other
Any help with where to look or info on history or value would be appreciated!
I wanted one and figured it had to be worth $40, hoping it was worth more, of course!

You have a mismatched Nazi bayo and scabbard. The blade was made in '43, the scabbard a bit earlier. It's worth what you paid for it and is the correct bayo for any German K98k
There is a ton of info such as maker, Waffenamt's, and such, but since you're not really a collector yet, would be pointless to type it all out.
Plenty of info on the web to search out. To start you off, fnj is the code for the maker of the blade and S/173k is the maker code for the scabbard.

$40 to $60 would be a good price I'd think. I'd start it a bit over $40 though; if you had a frog for it it would be a bit more.

yes I know the sling is on the wrong side. that dang loop in the front does not want to come off, and whoever put it on last(before me of course) did it backward I do not want to scratch it by using too much force
