shotgun pick

I just started turkey hunting and looking for a gun.
Have shot a few now and I like the autos better then the pumps.
my picks are the Remington 870 express mag for a pump or "> I really liked" an old Remington sportsman 58 2 3/4 auto. Was told its a skeet gun but I don't know the difference ,something about a vent .

My question : what 12 Gauge auto ,sold in stores now is most like the sportsman 58 ,as in weight ,shooting ,feel ?
or what would you recommend shooting before I lay down some cash.

thanks for any help or info.
If I'm not in the correct forum I apologize.

Remington 1100 would be your best choice. Very similar feel to the 58, but without its issues. The 58 had recievers that liked to crack and it was dropped in favor of the 1100 a few years later.

The 1100 or the 11-87, I have used an 11-87 for 14 years for duck hunting and turkey hunting, they will shoot any load in any weather conditin. I finally retired it to strictly spring turkey hunting (put a scope on)tough wing shooting with a scope.

1100 or the 1187 DON'T get the 1187 Super mag , they are way to heavy and you don't need a 3 1/2" shell to kill a turkey

I usually stick with pumps much simpler. I suggest you look at a large variety and find the one that best fits you then your wallet.

"Skeet" means that it has a very open choke that will allow you to take shots between 18 and 35 yards with a much better chance of hitting your target. As a beginner I'd stay away from a modified or full choke as they throw too small a pattern. Unless you hunt mostly turkey and long range geese you'll do better with skeet and improved cylinder. Also pumps are usually 3/4 pund lighter than autos BUT the 1100 Remington is well balenced and weight might not be an issue with you. BTW the 58 Rem is also nicely balenced but not as durable as an 1100. Good luck!
