High capacity mags in California

When did the ban on high capacity mags come into effect in California. Was it 2000?

How long was it before you could not purchase hi-cap mags at all. Was there a grace period?

When did manufacturers start stamping RESTRICTED LAW ENFORCEMENT / GOVENMENT USE ONLY on hi-cap mags.

Was there a time, or will there be a time, when magazines marked like this will be (or are they) legal to own in California if you are not in law enforcement.

Any specific reference to state laws will help.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I'm pretty sure the "LE Only" kicked in during the fed 1994 AW ban. The CA hi cap ban kicked in before that - 1990 I think. If you're in CA (as am I) and had your hi cap mags pre state ban you're OK. Suffice to say since the "LE only" started with the fed ban & the fed ban took place AFTER the state ban, you're misbehavin' if you have anything so stamped.

All my hi cap mags are pre - ban. Really ...[}:)]

I doubt CA will lift the hi cap ban any time soon. If you have pre ban hi caps you can repair them with various kits out there. I suggest you check out the Calguns Forum. Lots of info on that site.

I don't know if this link will help give you some info, but it scared the heck out of me. Hopefully this stupidity will stay in California and not infect the other States. Good luck!!!

Thank you both for your help. I purchased a beretta cougar with 10 round clips in 1999. Later the same year from the same gun store I purchased a 15 round clip. It was from the 92 model so I had to modify it but it worked. All of this happened in 1999 and I remember that it was OK to purchase hi-cap mags that were already in the state. At some point, and I don't know when, it became against the law to transfer hi-cap mags. Or so I've heard. Is that true and if so does anyone know when?
Would it be possible to have purchased a clip (or 10) that stated RESTRICTED LAW ENFORCEMENT/GOVENMENT USE ONLY during the time period that you could still buy them in California.
