According to data in The Rifleman's Rifle by Rule, the first serial number produced in 1962 was 545447. I believe the G prefix started in the 1980's or later.

Thank you! Now, does that serial number tell you exactly which model this is? It is a .300 Win Mag with a Monte Carlo Stock and a black tipped forend and pistol grip. It has wrap around checkering. The bolt is jewelled. I'm trying to find the Blue Book value on this rifle. I would rate it in 90% condition. Thanks again!!!

Post 1981 production was by the U.S. Repeating Arms Company.

Your Model 70 was manufactured in the year 1975, and No, the serial number does not identify the specific variant or caliber.

The Blue Book is not completely accurate (nor is Madis)[xx(].
