Tubular Magazine, .22 L.R. Problems

I've had the following post on "rimfire central" for several days now. No nibbles on a response. Anyone?
Picked up a clean Remington 550-1. All it needed was an inner mag. tube, which I ordered from Brownells. Here's the problem; After sliding half a dozen rounds into the magazine slot I can't close the tube. It will only go an inch or so past first resistance. It appears that the follower is binding. With no ammo in the tube it closes and locks easily. Also with the inner tube removed, I can easily insert a full tube's worth of ammo up into the inner tube. The follower has a long narrow neck which opens up to a near tube diameter bulb on the end. I widened the "neck" with a piece of electrical shrink wrap tubing to keep it on more of a straight path. This helps, and I can usually get things closed with a bit of fiddling, but it's a pain. Any advice on this issue? Once it's loaded it shoots shorts, longs and l.r. without a hitch.

I think this may just be something unique to this model gun. You might try running a patch with solvent thru the outer tube, then dry it out.
Also run a patch up into the inner tube as far as you can to clear out any powder residue or other crap that may have got in there. Mine did not have the brass deflector on it, so I had to order one from Numrich parts corp.
I'll give your suggestions a try and let you know. Thanks.
Mine lacked the deflector as well, but for the time being I'm getting along fine without it.
Take care,
Rob
