Spoilling possible collectable

Are Russian made SKS's really collectable. I have one that I picked up over a decade ago. I had not shot much in that time but recently I have been shooting about every weekend. I am hard on metal and wood finishes. I get scratches all the time. I buy used or inexpensive guns and don't sweat the little stuff. I mostly thought of the SKS as a bang around gun but now I hear it might be a collector's item. There must have been enough of them that if I beat it up a little nobody will cry, right?

Have your way with it. It's your rifle.
You can always buy an additional one and keep it unfired.

if that's a question, then the answer is probably: no more than an ak. i wouldn't stress modding one and worrying that it'd lose it's value. after all, a well modded sks straight shooting sks is probably worth more anyways. try tech-sights aperture sight for it -- makes a huge difference.

Check the auction prices on Russian Tula SKS's and you see they bring a fat premium over the others.

I say shoot your toy and enjoy using it for it's intended purpose.....to be shot. I too have a collectable rifle, a G series FN/FAL that when I bought it several months ago was still unfired. I bought it to use and as one of my "oh s$%t" guns. It now has a few hundred rounds through it and I really am happy I bought it. Use your guns and be happy, that's my motto.[:)]

    It depends.

If it has the original BLUE finish, as opposed to arsenal black paint, & NO import markings, it is collectible & I wouldn't shoot it. Otherwise, I'd have fun with it.
