Doing a bit of investigating....and showing off.....its something that I told a friend I wanted and they brought it to me! Just what do I have here? Its a 243...manlicher...with some very "new to me" scope mounts (marked AUSTRIA on the mounts.) I am very happy to have it and now just seeing what I can find out about it.

It's a rifle that I just happen to want for my collection.
I believe it is either a mod 1956 or 1961 MCA Mannlicher Schoenauer
    Carbine.

My GUESS is that "MC" stands for Monte Carlo, circa mid 50's. It was a fancied up version of the post war Model 1952, meant for the American trade.

But what IS it....there are some guns with bits and pieces like it on various places, but nothing like it. Why is it Mauser-like, but with a side safety? Are the scope mounts "special?" (no short bus jokes) I sell everything eventually...but for now I am just happy to look at it and ask silly questions.

"What IS it", Did you just fall off the turnip wagon, or something? All the freaken money you make with your penny auctions, you don't know what a Mannlicher-Schonauer is? Do your self a favor, quit buying Barbies, buy yourself some gun books.

The MCA was set up for scope and has the side safety.
It's in a feeble caliber and has gloss and reflection that would * deer or varmints in the next county. White stock spacers are old fashioned.
Why not just list it now and be done with it?

If it has a 20" bbl, that is an unaltered 1961 model Mannlicher Schoenauer carbine. It's an updated version of the 1956 model and was made until 1971. An excellent quality rifle, although being left handed I prefer the plainer version without the Monte Carlo stock. The action is slick as heck, which I'm sure you've already discovered, simply because it's well made and due to the placement of the handle closer to the center of the bolt. As you can see that makes scope mounting a bit of a challenge.

I'm pretty sure were imported by Stoeger.

No turnip trucks around here....just a few go-carts and 4-wheelers. I get an odd gun or two and this one is just NOT like any of the Steyrs that I have seen. I do have a few books, but I thought before I dig into those I would "ASK THE EXPERTS."

(Homer Simpson "Dogh" in the background)

The guns that I am unfamiliar with I like to try and find out if there are replaced parts....or alterations done to before I list them, but this one will not be for sale right away. Everything I end up with IS for sale...but my Larry NEVER sells a gun and he has put his hands on it and said the words "I would like to shoot THIS one before you sell it" which really means I may never get it back.

Thank you for your help everyone...and any info you can give I appreciate.

LF...I understand completely why you post on the experts forum. Like me, it's to learn, and to share information. I personally enjoy your postings. And I love turnips. Keep it up!! Joe

PS don't put the gun away with it cocked.

    Locust fork,

That there turnip would look really good in my gunsafe next to my other "unusual" .243's.

My guess is that most of the 'extras' on that rifle are custom done.

LF, I'm not as well informed as many here but have had a fascination with that Mannlicher Schoenaeur Monte Carlo full stock since before you were born.

If I see that one in one of your penny auctions, I'm telling.
