what do you carry on your ankle?

I would like to carry an ankle gun and wanted to know what the preferance is for most CW carriers. I work in a retail store so need to have it concealed yet confortable. Do most use a semi-automatic?

    Socks are the only thing I carry on my ankle.

    I carry a kel-tec 380 in a galco pocket holster in my front pocket. Gun is so flat nobody would ever know you had a gun.

    Its hard to get at a ankle holster quickly plus you bend over you may display the firearm. Not cool!

    Give a pocket holster a try before going to a ankle holster. De Santis makes a excellent one called a "Gunhide", that isn't expensive but does the job extremely well. KelTec makes a small 9mm semi-auto, a P-11 that has a 12 + 1 capacity, works just fine with the above holster. If 13 rounds of 9mm H-P's don't do the job, your in deep s**t.

    Over the years I have seen lots of ankle carried gun butts flopping in the breeze with the pant leg caught up around it, and the guy just walking by oblivious. It is not the best way to carry a gun. If you work in retail and that happens to you, would you get fired?

    I have to agree with those above who find an ankle carry awkward; I have tried it a couple times over the years, and the gun would show when I didn't want it to, it bulged the pants leg at best, and might be quite awkward to get to in an emergency. There are other, better, ways to carry completely concealed.

    I carry a Colt Detective Special in a Galco ankle rig. Very high quality rig and quite comfortable for all day carry. My holster/gun combination has not presented any of the above referenced problems. I agree it could be very difficult to get to the gun in ankle rig but with some training and knowledge it works quite well.
    The primary considerations of CCW are;
    1) Concealability
    2) Accessibility
    3) Comfort
    Finding the combination that satisfies all considerations is sometimes difficult but certainly obtainable.

    I have carried a PPK in an ankle rig for over 13 years or so. I've never experienced any of the problems listed above. I actually prefer an ankle rig since I will be dropping down should any shooting start. It's all about how you train I guess.
    One thing I do is dispense with the extra straps on the holster. I use only holsters with the velco that goes around the ankle AND the holster. Keeps a much lower profile. Black socks also camoflage the holster.
    Unless you are an absolute dweeb, no one can tell you are carrying a weapon.

    Smith and Wesson model 640 in a Gould and Goodrich ankle rig. I put a boot grip on the Smith and wear loose leg pants. The pistol is all but unnoticeable.

    On a side note I also carry a Kel Tec P3AT in a pocket holster for those situations when I can't get to my ankle in time.
