hello all, I just purchased a Winchester model 70 this past weekend, it is Marked "XTR sporter" and its in 300 weatherby magnum caliber.
Condition is MINT unfired, the scope base screw holes still have the plugs in them. seriel number is G19016XX. my questions are, what year was this rifle made? did they make many in this caliber? and whats its current market value? I paid $450.00 for it from a dealer. any info would be great...Thanks!

For starters, it is not a "WINCHESTER" Model 70... instead, it is a U.S. Reapeating Arms Co. (U.S.R.A.Co.) built Model 70.

Second, currently there is no available published information concerning the U.S.R.A.Co. manufactured firearms. Hopefully, they will someday pass their records on to the Cody Firearms Museum.

Lastly, its current market value is exactly what you just paid for it.

edit... here is a recent topic concerning Model 70 production - http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=246717

Good rifle, my first nice rifle was an XTR in 30-06. Hope you enjoy. Mine is very accurate for 3 shots, the you need to wait for the bbl to cool (lightweight bbl loses zero with heat)
I would have said 450-500, you paid a really fair price for a good rifle in the perfect long range hunting caliber.

The rifle shown is not a Super Grade. $450.00 should be fair for both buyer and seller. As Bert indicated there is no detailed publication of post 64 Model 70 production.
