WASR10

I'm considering the purchase of a new WASR 10 AK47, Double Stack (2x15 rounds per mag) in the $325.00 price range. I will have the opportunity to see and handle the gun/s before purchase to check for magazine tightness, etc. This is in my price range as I don't want to spend more than $350.00. Does this sound like a good deal? Is there anything else I should look for when inspecting the gun?

I see from other forums that the WASR is either loved or hated so I realize some will have a personal opinion regarding the WASR. I also read where each WASR is not made the same so it's important to physically handle the gun before purchase. If there is a better alternative in this price range for an AK or AK type I'd be open to hearing about it.

Thanks

i would pass, save enough $ for a yugo. they usually work , but the magwells have been milled out on many to imprecise dimentions, sometimes creating problems or mags that are loose

i own both a Yugo and WASRs, go ahead and pick up the WASR10, its the best way to go to get into AKs without spending much. ive never had a problem with any of my WASR-10s as far as magazines fitting or not. when you see the gun i guess you could test fit some magazines. as long as its functions i dont care if they wobble a little. i would buy it.

why do you want to buy the double, go for the single and buy a larger clip, banana clip. the wood stock one from Romania runs about $299 at Dunham's sports, they also had a special on the draganov stock for $250. Hope this helps

    Check out this website:
    http://www.gunsnet.net/Linx310/

It has loads of tips to watch out for. A tight mag well is easy to fix. A canted gas block is not.

I picked up a used rusty beater Wasr10 for really really cheap with a canted gas block. Gun shoots and works just.

Personally I'd take a Wasr10 over a Yugo. The Wasr has a chrome lined barrel and a receiver mounted scope rail.

    WTH?

The single stack mags are only 10 rounds... all hicaps are double stack. Oh yeah, it's a mag, not a clip...

I bought a "during" ban Romanian SAR-1 (no bayonet lug and no muzzle accessory). It came with four mags and cost $305. It looks crude, but it has never failed to load, eject or fire with any ammo (lots of Wolf and Siver Bear through it, maybe 1200 rounds.) I bought a replacement dust cover with mounted scope rings, installed a NC Star 3-9x32mm scope and it gives me 2 to 2.5" groups at 100 yards. Not target grade, but suitable for plinking and other purposes. I also bought a Romanian 75 round drum mag for it. All the mags wobble a little bit, but all function just fine. New ones, post ban with bayonet lugs and blast deflector, bayonet and 2 or 3 mags are selling in this area between $349 and $369 at gun shows and shops. For the price you can't beat them. ALSO, I bought one of those rubber butt pad extenders, it makes a better fit and reduces shoulder impact. Nice plinking set-up and fairly cheap to shoot, even though 7.62x39mm ammo has about doubled in price over the past four years.
