Congratulation! I'm glad you got to get the rifle you were looking at originally.
I'll be back later tonight and see what else we can cover with you.
Best.
cheers

I'm with you on length of pull. At my height I'd like at least 15.5" or so but 13" seems about the norm. Don't know if you're aware, but average height for a US male is supposedly 5'9" & holding, so I don't expect it to change. I added a Limbsaver to my Ruger #1 and that helped alot - with recoil & LOP.
I like IMR 4198 for reloading and the 400 grain Remington or Speer JSPs are a good all around bullet. I believe each has two separate crimping grooves. Check out the Remingtons first, they're about half the cost of Speer. Hornady makes the 500 grainers & a 50 pack is about $45.00. For all around plinking the 300 JHP has light recoil & bullets are cheap - 100 Remingtons cost about $16.00.
458 brass is a special run item & a little tough to find. When I started I had to buy 45 basic mag brass & a die from Hornady, trim & size down to 458 Win Mag. It's a bit of a chore using the die, cutting & filing to length, but gives you perfectly useable brass.
As an aside, I've always had trouble with Hornady dies, especilly with straight walled cartridges such as the 458 Win or 405 Win. The sizing & expanding work fine, but their seater die is a pain. There's a metal clip that holds the internals in place & that always seems to snag on the mouth or side of the case. The seating plug has a habit of somehow getting stuck also.
Finally, if you're shooting at a public range try to stay away from the 22 rimfire guys. All that blast & shock can be alot to deal with.
I think you're going to really enjoy the 458.
we have a bore ladder start on the left with the biggest,,and any brakes.
right end of the range is always for the little guys 22s small bore
never a drama
