What are the advantages and disadvantages to Pro Porting a shotgun barrel?
Does Pro Porting affect the pattern or velocity?

Let someone swing out in front or beside your head the next time you are in a duck or goose blind, you'll be saying "huh" to every thing that is said to you for days. In many cases does reduce felt recoil, can increase noise and blast just as dramatically.

For the little bit of reduced recoil its not worth it. The gun will be a bear to shoot as far as noise goes. I had a fox river brake put on my 300 win mag, and after shooting 10 rounds though it I brought it back and had the brake removed. Even with ear muffs on I couldn't stand to pull the trigger. Just my $.02

I have my 300WM Magna-Ported and my Citori O/U skeet Pro-Ported and it does make a difference.

On the 300WM it reduced the recoil down to almost .308 levels. For the shotgun, where I typically shoot 100-150 rounds in a day, I notice the reduced fatigue in my shoulder at the end of the day.

Thanks to all who responded with very sound advice and past experiences. I'm looking for a 26" 1187 bbl but will wait for a "normal" one.

I would add that porting most barrels can affect your resale value negatively.
